As your faithful Knight, I’ve marched through many a season here at SPX. From the echoes of the gym to the cheers on the sidelines, one thing is always clear—our strength is not only in our students, but in the families and supporters who make this place thrive.
Fall is a busy season in the kingdom. Between athletics, fundraisers, parish events, and the daily rhythm of school life, I see parents and volunteers tirelessly giving their time and talents.
You are the quiet champions behind the victories—whether it’s driving to practices, setting up for events, or simply showing up in the stands with encouragement. Without you, the spirit of our Knights would not shine nearly as bright.
This month brings opportunities to live out what makes our community unique: faith, service, and excellence. As we rally together for big moments like Volley for the Cure and the many fundraisers that support our school, I ask you to see your role as part of the armor that protects and strengthens St. Pius X.
So thank you, noble parents and families, for carrying the banner high. You are part of the tradition, the energy, and the legacy that keep this Knight proud to call St. Pius X home.

Student Council Opportunities for Grades 6–8
St. Pius X Parish School is proud to offer Student Council as a way for our middle school students to grow as leaders and make a meaningful impact in our community. Student Council members serve as the voice of the student body and work together to plan events, lead service projects, and build school spirit.
What Student Council Members Do
Elected and appointed members will:
- Attend meetings twice a month during lunch/recess.
- Serve as tour guides at the November and January Open Houses.
- Help plan activities for Catholic Schools Week.
- Identify a realistic need within the school and organize a fundraiser.
- Plan one or two middle school dances (winter/spring).
- Assist with planning Field Day.
- Write a monthly Knightly News update on student leadership.
- Lead or support service projects.
Additional leadership opportunities may be added throughout the year as new needs arise
Who Can Run
Students in grades 6–8 are eligible to participate if they meet the academic, attendance, and citizenship requirements outlined in the attached Student Council Candidate Permission & Endorsement Form. Available positions include President (8th graders only), Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Service Chair, and Class Representatives for grades K–8.
How to Participate
If your student would like to run for Student Council, please review the attached form, complete the required parent/guardian consent and teacher endorsement, and return it to the school office by Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to develop responsibility, teamwork, and leadership skills while making a positive difference at St. Pius X.

Butter Braid® Fundraiser Kicks Off!
It’s time once again for one of our most popular traditions—the Butter Braid® Pastry Fundraiser! These delicious pastries are a family favorite, and best of all, each purchase supports a critical cause right here at St. Pius X.
This year, all proceeds will go directly toward enhancing our safety and emergency preparedness equipment. Your participation ensures that we continue to protect our students and remain ready for any situation.
Key Details
- Order Deadline: Friday, October 31 at the start of the school day
- How to Order:
- Online (preferred): Visit the Fundraiser Store and search for your student’s name.
- Paper Form: Return the form and full payment in an envelope labeled “Butter Braids” with your student’s name.
- Delivery & Pickup: Thursday, November 13, 2025. Pickup is mandatory between 2:00–4:00 PM in the Social Center.

Mr. V is Looking for Supplies for Project
Beloved art Teacher Mr. Velat is looking for lids to 32oz. containers for a project. He is hoping he can get the SPX families to help him out and bring in any they would otherwise recycle around the house. Typically, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. Please clean and drop off at the school office. Thanks!
The Week in Photos
This week in photos we saw Mrs. Kaefer's Pre4 class get a special visit from Mrs. Kim White, the Natural Naturalist, and friend of St. Pius X, who brought some animals that began with the letter "A". We also had our 8th Grade religion class learn about some miracles from guest speaker, Linda Chan. There was a quick moment when we had our 7th Graders,...well, being our 7th graders. Also a couple of quick moments of our preschools snoozing, smiling and building bridges in Mrs. Igoe's class. And a few moments of our 1st graders doing math that quickly turned into a "take a picture of me" photo shoot...And last a quick pop into our 4th graders in art class.
Also is some great photos of our Developmental Team in action at their season ending meet against 14 schools. This league is all 3rd and 4th grade developmental runners before the competitive league starts in 5th grade.

Grandparents' Day and Book Fair
We can't wait to celebrate our students' grandparents and special friends! Please join us for Grandparents' Day on Sunday, October 19th, 2025. We'll kick things off with Mass at 12:30 PM, followed by light refreshments and snacks in the Social Center.
The annual Book Fair will also begin on Grandparents' Day! It's a wonderful chance to stock up on new books for your family or find early birthday and Christmas gifts. The book fair will be open during Grandparents' Day and will also be open for students to visit throughout the week, October 19th through October 23rd.

It’s here — one of the biggest nights of the year at St. Pius X… the 8th Grade Volleyball Blackout! This long-standing tradition celebrates our graduating 8th grade Knights as they take the court at home one last time.

Cross Country
The Results are in from the fourth SPL meet at the Downers Grove Swim and Racquet Club. Congrats to all our Knights on how hard they worked and to each and every student-athlete that achieved their or PR!
The Knights next meet is the Championship meet, Saturday, Oct. 4th at Settler's Hill Cross Country Course in Geneva, IL. Let's go Knights!!
Knights Volleyball Season Update
The St. Pius X Knights are making their mark in the Tri-County Catholic Conference with nine teams competing this fall. Collectively, our athletes have earned 30 match wins, 75 sets, and scored over 3,300 points so far this season.
The boys’ teams are leading the way: 5A (5–3) and 7B (5–3) both hold strong records, while 7A (4–5) and 8A (5–5) continue to battle in close matches. On the girls’ side, 8A (5–5) has posted a solid start, while our younger squads are gaining valuable experience and showing growth each week.
The season has been full of hard work, hustle, and Knight pride. With fans in the stands and families supporting every step of the way, our Knights are set to finish strong!

St. Pius X is proud to host our 11th annual Volley for the Cure on Saturday, October 11, from Noon–8:00 PM in the SPX gym—a day where our community comes together to honor those who have lost their battle with breast cancer, support survivors, and stand alongside those still fighting. Once again, we are partnering with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to raise awareness and funds for this important cause.
Throughout the day, all nine of our Knights volleyball teams will take the court, each playing a match in special uniforms designed to show our support. Between games, fans can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win gift baskets generously donated by sponsors and created by our teams.
