The Knights Watch
The Measure of a True Champion
In every arena, from the roaring gym to the grassy fields, we cheer for victories. The final score, the medal, the trophy—they all shine brightly under the lights. But as I walk the halls of St. Pius X, I’m reminded that the true measure of a champion isn’t found in the scoreboard—it’s found in the soul.
Champions rise not just when they win, but when they lift others up. They show humility in triumph and grace in defeat. They shake hands, say “good game,” and remember that competition is not about conquering others—it’s about refining ourselves. Every practice, every challenge, every moment of perseverance is a step toward becoming the person God calls us to be.
Here in our kingdom, we play hard, but we also pray hard. We remind our Knights that faith and sportsmanship are not separate—they’re part of the same armor. The discipline that drives an athlete to train is the same discipline that shapes a strong mind and a faithful heart.
Parents, coaches, and teachers are part of that journey too. When we model respect, patience, and perspective, our young Knights learn that greatness isn’t measured by points or stats—it’s measured by integrity.
So the next time we celebrate a big win, let’s also celebrate the quiet ones—the handshake after a tough loss, the teammate who encourages another, the student who works hard without applause. Those are the moments where true champions are made.

Priority Registration Opens November 1!
We’re getting a jump on next year, Knights! Registration for the 2026–27 school year opens Saturday, November 1. Current SPX families will have priority registration from November 1–16, giving you first access to secure your student’s spot for next year.
Then, on Sunday, November 16, we’ll open registration to the public during our St. Pius X School Open House. Spread the word to friends and family—this is the perfect chance to show them what makes our school such an amazing community of faith, service, and academic excellence!

Our School Dance Teams — along with our performing Pastor, Fr. Matt — will be featured on the Around Town segment on WGN News on Friday, January 9th, between 7:00–11:00 AM!

Get ready for one of the most exciting weeks of the year! Our theme this year is Wicked, and it’s going to be magical. An email with all the details on e-wallets and shopping schedules is on its way.
Don't forget that our teachers have wishlists of books they’d love for their classrooms. Every class gets a chance to visit the fair, and we need your help to make it happen! Please sign up to volunteer for setup, helping students shop, and cleanup.

P3–5th Grade: Spooktacular
Get ready for some carnival-style fun! Students in grades P3 through 5 will enjoy a half-hour of festive games with their classmates. We’re still collecting trinkets, nut-free candy, and goodies to pass out. Just drop your donations in our "Feed the Monster" bin at the school!
Junior High: Halloween Happenings
The fun isn't just for the little ones! Our junior high students will be ending their day with a classic game of BINGO! We’re looking for donations of full-size candy bars (chocolate and non-chocolate), store-bought non-perishable snacks, and candy. Please drop them off at the main office and label them JUNIOR HIGH HALLOWEEN.

Did you know the PSA loves to pamper our teachers and staff? Thanks to your generous donations in August, we were able to treat them to lunch during training and breakfast on the first day of school. Cross Country
The SPL Season is done and we are onto bigger and better things. Tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 18, our the IESA Select Series Boys Cross Country Runners and Clare Richardson (who qualified as an individual runner) will compete at the state level and attempt to bring home a IESA title, for the 3rd year in a row. Knights Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season
St. Pius X Volleyball wrapped up regular season play strong in the Tri-County Catholic Conference, with teams showing grit, growth, and great sportsmanship across every level.
The Knights combined for 42 total wins this season, led by standout performances from our Boys 5A, 7A, 7B, and 8A teams, each finishing near the top of their divisions. The Girls 8A team also capped off the regular season with an impressive seven wins, ranking fourth overall.
Playoff action is already underway, and the excitement continues to build! Both our Girls 6A and Girls 6B teams earned victories in their first playoff rounds this week. The Girls 5A and Boys 6A squads hit the court tonight, while the rest of our teams are set to compete this weekend.
With strong finishes, high energy, and Knight pride leading the way—SPX Volleyball is ready to make a statement in the postseason.

Volunteers Needed – TCC Volleyball Playoffs at SPX!
St. Pius X Athletics is hosting Tri-County Catholic Conference Volleyball Playoff games all day Saturday, October 18, and we need your help!
Hosting brings great energy—and important revenue—to our program, but we can’t do it without volunteers for admissions and concessions. Each shift is just two hours and counts toward volunteer hours.
