The Cost of “Just a Few Minutes”
We’ve all been there—mornings that don’t go as planned. Shoes disappear, lunches get forgotten, traffic lights seem to turn red just for you. Life happens, and sometimes being late is simply unavoidable. But when “just a few minutes” late becomes a pattern, it sends a message that echoes far beyond the morning bell.
At St. Pius X, we emphasize not only academic excellence but the formation of character. Punctuality is a lesson in responsibility, respect, and commitment—values that prepare students for success long after they leave our classrooms. When students arrive late repeatedly, they miss the chance to settle in, connect with classmates, and begin the day grounded and ready to learn. More importantly, they learn—often unconsciously—that deadlines are flexible and others’ time can wait.
In the adult world, timeliness is a hallmark of reliability. Showing up on time tells others, “You can count on me.” By modeling and reinforcing punctuality now, we give our children a powerful head start in learning accountability and respect for structure.
So while the occasional late morning is understandable, let’s work together to ensure it doesn’t become routine. Each on-time arrival is a quiet but powerful message to our children: your education matters, your teachers’ time matters, and your word matters.
After all, forming Knights of character begins one morning—on time—at a time.

We’re off to a strong start with $6,060 raised toward our $10,000 goal! Let’s keep it going, Knights—every pastry sold helps make St. Pius X safer and stronger.
The Butter Braid® Pastry Fundraiser is one of our favorite SPX traditions! These delicious pastries make perfect holiday treats, and proceeds this year go directly toward upgrading our safety and emergency preparedness equipment.

Around SPX this Week!
It was another wonderful week of learning, laughter, and faith at St. Pius X Parish School!
Fr. Matt joined our 7th graders for religion class, engaging them with his humor and wisdom as they deepened their understanding of faith. Our preschoolers enjoyed the crisp fall weather, being their joyful, silly selves on the playground and reminding us all of the beauty of simple fun.
We celebrated a beautiful bilingual Mass, uniting our school community in prayer and song. In the classroom, our 6th graders proudly showcased their coding skills, programming Micro:bits — tiny microprocessors that play Rock, Paper, Scissors! They shared their projects with the Kindergarteners, inspiring curiosity and creativity across grade levels.
Highlighted Album: The Living Rosary
Our entire school came together in prayer for a moving Living Rosary. Each student represented a bead, offering prayers of hope, gratitude, and faith as we reflected on the Mysteries of the Rosary. It was a powerful reminder that when we unite in prayer, we become the hands and hearts of Mary and Jesus in our world.

Our School Dance Teams — along with our performing Pastor, Fr. Matt — will be featured on the Around Town segment on WGN News on Friday, January 9th, between 7:00–11:00 AM!
We’ll be going live seven times throughout the morning and can’t wait to showcase our amazing school spirit. We encourage full school participation and excitement as we cheer on our talented Knights in action!

Stay Connected with the PSA
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Emily Kinney for her phenomenal effort and leadership as Chair of Grandparent's Day! The celebratory Mass was a beautiful way to honor all the students' grandparents and grandparent figures. The reception was a delight, and it was heartwarming to watch everyone share a great time together.
The Book Fair was a massive hit, all thanks to the incredible vision and commitment of Laura Meehan and Julie Klinko! You both didn't just meet expectations—you soared past them, making the Book Fair a memorable experience for everyone involved: students, teachers, families, and grandparents. Your imaginative transformation of the LRC and Art room into a magical "wicked" bookstore was inspired!
P3–5th Grade: Spooktacular
Get ready for some carnival-style fun! Students in grades P3 through 5 will enjoy a half-hour of festive games with their classmates. We’re still collecting trinkets, nut-free candy, and goodies to pass out. Just drop your donations in our "Feed the Monster" bin at the school!
Junior High: Halloween Happenings
The fun isn't just for the little ones! Our junior high students will be ending their day with a classic game of BINGO! We’re looking for donations of full-size candy bars (chocolate and non-chocolate), store-bought non-perishable snacks, and candy. Please drop them off at the main office and label them JUNIOR HIGH HALLOWEEN.
Did you know the PSA loves to pamper our teachers and staff? Thanks to your generous donations in August, we were able to treat them to lunch during training and breakfast on the first day of school. This month, we're planning a special Halloween breakfast and goodie bags. Want to help us show our gratitude all year long? You can donate to the Teacher Appreciation fund anytime!

Knights Volleyball Post Season
Our 8th Grade Girls are headed to the semi-finals on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Joliet Catholic Academy, where they’ll take on St. Isaac Jogues for a chance to advance to the Championship Match on Sunday at 3:30 PM at St. Francis High School.
Meanwhile, our 5th Grade Boys have already secured their spot in the Championship Game against St. Raphael—taking place Saturday at 11:30 AM at St. Francis High School.

Knights Basketball: Time to Hit the Court!
Basketball season is about to fire up, and our Knights are getting ready to lace up and light up the court! For our student-athletes registered for winter basketball, we’ve got a few open gyms scheduled next week to help shake off the rust and get those hoops skills back in motion.
