The Importance of Lent.
The Lenten season holds special significance for Catholic elementary students because it offers a unique opportunity for personal growth and spiritual reflection at a young age. During Lent, children are encouraged to practice self-discipline, kindness, and compassion by giving up certain comforts or performing good deeds.

These activities help them understand the value of sacrifice, empathy, and gratitude, which are essential virtues in their faith and daily lives. Through lessons and activities at school, students learn the meaning behind Lent and how it connects to the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
Furthermore, Lent provides a meaningful way for young students to participate in the larger Catholic community. By joining school liturgies, prayer services, and charitable projects, children experience a sense of unity and belonging within their faith tradition. This season helps them develop a deeper relationship with God and encourages them to carry the lessons of Lent—such as forgiveness, prayer, and service—beyond the
classroom and into their homes and communities. In this way, the Lenten season shapes not only their faith but also their character as compassionate and responsible individuals.

The Week in Photos: Daddy Daughter Dance, Lent Begins, and We Learn How to Make our Light Shine
It was a full and meaningful week here at St. Pius X!
We kicked things off with our 1950s-themed Father Daughter Dance on Friday, February 13. The gym was filled with laughter, music, and plenty of dancing as our Knights and their dads enjoyed a special evening together making memories that will last a lifetime.
Midweek, our school community came together to observe Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Lenten season with prayer and reflection.
We were also blessed to welcome international youth speaker and songwriter Charles Opio, who encouraged our Knights to “Be The Light” for one another through everyday actions. He was joined by Christian hip-hop artist Logan Blessed, whose music reminds listeners that even in life’s challenges, there is hope, purpose, and love found in Jesus Christ.

A Wonderful Night Out
A wonderful time was had by all in attendance at the Welcome to Cortonesi Wine Dinner Fundraiser.
Guests enjoyed an elegant five-course dining experience, with each course thoughtfully paired alongside an exclusive selection of hand-picked wines from the Cortonesi family vineyards.
It was an evening filled with good friends, great conversation, and lasting memories — all in support of St. Pius X. We are grateful to everyone who joined us for this special night of community and generosity.

All St. Pius X adult members — school and parish — are asked to complete a minimum of 6 volunteer hours each year to help support and strengthen our community.
Volunteer opportunities and hour tracking are now centralized through MobileServe. The platform includes a digital bulletin board of service opportunities and will serve as the official place to log all volunteer hours, whether through school events, athletics, parish ministries, or outreach efforts.

SPX Summer Programs
Sunshine, Smiles, and Summer Care
SPX Summer Care is a weekly summer program for children ages 3-5, offered over 11 weeks this summer (with the exception of June 28-July 3 due to parking lot work and school deep cleaning).
Each themed week is filled with hands-on activities, creative play, outdoor fun, and faith-filled moments - all led by our trusted SPX staff in a safe, nurturing environment.
The program runs Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM-3:00 PM and offers flexible week-by-week registration. Whether you need full summer coverage or just a few "Mom's Free Days," SPX Summer Care is a joyful and convenient option for your family.
Please we aware that:
- You child must be registered at St. Pius X Parish School for the 2026-27 school year.
- Space is limited. Your spot is not held until you complete the online registration and pay
- Children must be potty trained to attend.
- Limit of 20 students per week
- $250 per week

The St. Pius X PSA is partnering with Savers this April for our Clothing Drive! Clean out those closets and send in your gently used clothing to help us reach our 5,000-pound goal. St. Pius earns 20¢ per pound, so every bag makes a difference!
Drop-Off Dates:
- After school at pickup – April 14th (2:45–4:00 PM)
- Before school at drop-off – April 15th (7:30–8:30 AM)
No need to drive anywhere special—just bring your bags to school on the listed dates. Let’s work together to turn spring cleaning into support for our school!
Teacher Appreciation
Our staff at St. Pius X School is the BEST, and we’re excited to celebrate them all year long! Each month, we’ll show our gratitude in different ways—from stocking the teacher lounge, to hosting appreciation lunches, to providing special treats and surprises.

Knights Basketball Update
Regular Season Wraps Up This Weekend
As we head into the final slate of regular season games this weekend, our Knights have continued to battle, grow, and compete across all grade levels.
The 8th Grade Boys B team currently sits in 1st place in the standings with an impressive 9–2 record and +69 point differential, positioning themselves well as we prepare to enter postseason play. Close behind, our 7th Grade Boys A squad holds 2nd place at 8–2, while the 7th Grade Boys B team is in 3rd place with a strong 7–3 mark.
Our 5th Grade Boys A team rounds out the top half of the division standings in 4th place, continuing to show growth throughout the season against tough competition.
As a program, the Knights have compiled a combined record of 47–68–1, scoring 1,981 total points across 116 divisional games played this winter.
With one final weekend of regular season action ahead, we look forward to finishing strong and carrying that momentum into the playoffs. Let’s pack the gyms and support our Knights as they close out the regular season!

Knights Track & Field Registration is Open!
Registration is now open for St. Pius X Knights Track & Field, and we’re excited to welcome runners, jumpers, and throwers to another great spring season!
Track & Field at SPX is more than just competition—it’s an opportunity for students to grow in confidence, discipline, and teamwork while staying active in a supportive, faith-filled environment. Whether your child is brand new to the sport or ready to compete at a high level, there’s a place for them on the track.
Who Can Participate
- Competitive Team (Grades 5–8)
- Season runs March–May
- Practices up to 4x per week (1.5 hours) at St. Pius X and Willowbrook High School
- Meets on Saturdays
- Registration Fee: $65
- Singlet Requirement: $30 (reusable for Cross Country & Track; not required if you already have one that fits)
- Developmental League (Grades 3–4)
- Introductory program focused on fundamentals and fun
- Practices 2x per week, aligned with the competitive team
- Culminates in a season-ending meet (date TBD)
- Registration Fee: $50
- Perk: Free uniform shirt included

8th Grade Basketball Blackout

The 8th Grade Basketball Blackout is almost here — and it promises to be one of the most meaningful and electric nights of the year at St. Pius X.
On Saturday, February 21, we celebrate the final home games and final performances for our 8th grade Knights in both Basketball and Dance. This annual Blackout tradition is more than a game night — it is our rose ceremony, honoring our 8th grade athletes and their families and celebrating the journey they have taken as Knights.
Each 8th grade team will be recognized prior to their game. Families are asked to be present before tip-off so they can take part in this special ceremony. It is a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate the dedication, growth, and leadership these students have shown throughout their time at SPX.

Youth Ministry is Alive and Thriving at SPX!
Youth ministry, you might ask? What exactly IS youth ministry? Youth ministry offers a safe space for teens in our parish to come & gather to learn more about our Catholic faith. Is it like religion class? No, not exactly. The teens develop fellowship, are openly encouraged to ask questions about our faith, dig a little deeper into Catholicism, and have a new outlet to hang out in. They will learn more about who they are, their relationship with God, and gain faith encounters and experiences they may otherwise miss out on. Give YM a try - ya never know what God has planned for YOU!
