Clearing the Late-Winter Clutter
Late winter has a way of wearing on us.
The holidays are over. The skies are gray. Schedules are packed. Notifications buzz. Life feels noisy and full — and not always in the best way.
Right in the middle of that, Lent arrives.
Not as another item on the calendar, but as an invitation to refocus.

Not as another item on the calendar, but as an invitation to refocus.
When the world pulls for our attention, Lent calls us back to intention. Through prayer, fasting, and generosity, we clear away distractions and make room for what actually matters. Like the earth beneath the frozen ground, growth is happening — even when we can’t see it yet.
For our students, it might look like choosing kindness over impulse.
For families, it might mean unplugging, praying together, or serving someone in need. For all of us, it’s about sharpening our focus.
Spring will come. Easter will come. But the joy of it is deeper when we’ve allowed Lent to do its quiet work first.

Knights on Time
At St. Pius X Parish School, our school day begins with purpose at 8:10 AM.
As stated in the handbook:
"The tardy bell will ring at 8:10, followed by Morning Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance in the classrooms. Students who arrive after 8:10 should stop by the school office to get an admittance slip. Tardy students are to enter the school building in the morning by using the main doors by the school office."
And:
"Tardiness has a significant impact on the tardy student and the classroom. Oftentimes, the student has no control over when they arrive at school, as many are driven by an adult. The principal will address excessive tardiness."
Tardiness disrupts prayer, instruction, classroom focus, and the confidence of the student arriving late. Those first minutes matter.
Administrative guidelines:

- 10 tardies: note sent home
- 15 tardies: notification to the Diocese of Joliet and action taken regarding frequent truancy
The Week in Photos
Another full week at St. Pius X Parish School.
Our Preschool classrooms brought plenty of smiles (and a little hijinks), while Mrs. Igoe’s Preschool 4 class officially began their trip around the world. First stop: China. Students “packed their bags” and explored Chinese culture, highlighted by a special visit from Dominic K.’s Uncle Jeremy, a school administrator in China. He shared about the Lunar New Year and taught the class a few words in Chinese — perfect timing for our global travelers.
Third grade opened their businesses and went shopping in Social Studies this week, putting their classroom economy into action and bringing hands-on learning to life.
Coach Sarah hosted the Auction Dance Party after school on Thursday for students who bid on a spot — music, dancing, and great energy all around.
Kindergarten students experienced their first School Mass, an important milestone as they continue growing in faith and confidence.
Saturday night’s 8th Grade Basketball Blackout was electric. All three 8th grade teams competed with pride, while the Littlest Knights and Knight Crew Dance Teams energized the crowd. Assistant AD Emily Gillespie helped rally the school and run a fantastic event.

All St. Pius X adult members — school and parish — are asked to complete a minimum of 6 volunteer hours each year to help support and strengthen our community.
Volunteer opportunities and hour tracking are now centralized through MobileServe. The platform includes a digital bulletin board of service opportunities and will serve as the official place to log all volunteer hours, whether through school events, athletics, parish ministries, or outreach efforts.

Sunshine, Smiles, and Summer Care
SPX Summer Care is a weekly summer program for children ages 3-5, offered over 11 weeks this summer (with the exception of June 28-July 3 due to parking lot work and school deep cleaning).
Each themed week is filled with hands-on activities, creative play, outdoor fun, and faith-filled moments - all led by our trusted SPX staff in a safe, nurturing environment.
The program runs Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM-3:00 PM and offers flexible week-by-week registration. Whether you need full summer coverage or just a few "Mom's Free Days," SPX Summer Care is a joyful and convenient option for your family.
Please we aware that:
- You child must be registered at St. Pius X Parish School for the 2026-27 school year.
- Space is limited. Your spot is not held until you complete the online registration and pay
- Children must be potty trained to attend.
- Limit of 20 students per week
- $250 per week
SPX Athletics Summer Camps Announced
St. Pius X Athletics is excited to offer a full lineup of Summer Camps for students of all ages, providing opportunities for young Knights to stay active, build skills, and have fun throughout the summer.
The season begins with Intro to Sports Camp (June 1–5) for students in Kindergarten through 4th grade, focusing on fundamental athletic skills, coordination, and teamwork. Young dancers can join Intro to Dance Camp (June 8–11) for students entering Pre-4 through 1st grade, introducing the basics of dance in a fun and welcoming environment.
Athletes can continue developing their skills at Volleyball Camp (June 22–26) for grades 3–8 and Basketball Camp (July 13–17) for grades 3–8, both emphasizing skill development, gameplay, and teamwork.
Dancers entering grades 2–8 can participate in Dance Technique Camp, held on select evenings from July 9 through August 13, focusing on building technique and preparing for future performances.
The summer concludes with Strength & Conditioning Camp (July 20–24) for grades 5–8, designed to help students improve strength, agility, endurance, and overall athletic performance.
These camps provide a great opportunity for students to stay active, develop new skills, and enjoy the spirit of St. Pius X Athletics all summer long.

Spring Cleaning for a Cause!
The St. Pius X PSA is partnering with Savers once again this April—an easy way to declutter and support our school at the same time! Drop off your gently used clothing during after-school pickup on April 14 (2:45–4:00 pm) or before school on April 15 (7:30–8:30 am). St. Pius earns 20¢ per pound, so every bag makes a difference. No extra trips needed—just bring your donations to school on the designated dates. Let’s work together to reach our goal of 6,000 pounds!

Knights Basketball Update
Regular Season Wrap-Up
The regular season has officially come to a close for St. Pius X Parish School Basketball.
As a program, our Knights finished with a combined record of 54–77–1, competing hard across 132 divisional games. Several teams capped off strong seasons:
Now, the focus shifts to the postseason.
Good luck to all of our Knights as they enter their playoff brackets. Keep competing, keep supporting one another, and continue to show what it means to play with Strength in Faith and Pride in Play.
Let’s make some noise in the playoffs.

Knights Track & Field Registration Closes 3/1/26
Registration is now open for St. Pius X Knights Track & Field, and we’re excited to welcome runners, jumpers, and throwers to another great spring season!
Track & Field at SPX is more than just competition—it’s an opportunity for students to grow in confidence, discipline, and teamwork while staying active in a supportive, faith-filled environment. Whether your child is brand new to the sport or ready to compete at a high level, there’s a place for them on the track.
Who Can Participate
- Competitive Team (Grades 5–8)
- Season runs March–May
- Practices up to 4x per week (1.5 hours) at St. Pius X and Willowbrook High School
- Meets on Saturdays
- Registration Fee: $65
- Singlet Requirement: $30 (reusable for Cross Country & Track; not required if you already have one that fits)
- Developmental League (Grades 3–4)
- Introductory program focused on fundamentals and fun
- Practices 2x per week, aligned with the competitive team
- Culminates in a season-ending meet (date TBD)
- Registration Fee: $50
- Perk: Free uniform shirt included

Youth Ministry is Alive and Thriving at SPX!
Youth ministry, you might ask? What exactly IS youth ministry? Youth ministry offers a safe space for teens in our parish to come & gather to learn more about our Catholic faith. Is it like religion class? No, not exactly. The teens develop fellowship, are openly encouraged to ask questions about our faith, dig a little deeper into Catholicism, and have a new outlet to hang out in. They will learn more about who they are, their relationship with God, and gain faith encounters and experiences they may otherwise miss out on. Give YM a try - ya never know what God has planned for YOU!
